FAQ

Why transliterate URLs?

Human-readable Latin slugs with keywords are understood better by users and search engines than random ids like ?id=123. This has a positive effect on ranking in Yandex and Google.

Which rules are used?

A readable scheme (passport/ISO style): щ→shch, х→kh, ц→ts, ж→zh, ё→yo and so on. The full table is below. Both Yandex and Google read such a clean Latin address correctly.

How does “URL slug” differ from “Transliteration”?

The “Transliteration” field just converts letters, keeping spaces and case. The “URL slug” field also lowercases and replaces spaces and punctuation with hyphens — a ready page address or domain name.

Is data sent to a server?

No. Transliteration runs entirely in your browser.
